A Polar Bear Fishing in the River Thames?

Whether it’s a high-speed river chase with 007, a flying pig over Battersea Power Station, or a Polar Bear fishing in the river, the Thames has seen it all.

River Bus passengers can now learn all of this and more with the launch of Uber Boat by Thames Clippers brand-new audio guides, voiced by the iconic impressionist and comedian, Rory Bremner, bringing London to life with his wit, storytelling, and the occasional unexpected “celebrity” cameo.

Launching in April, two new audio guides will be available to download via the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers app. One explores the rich history of the River Thames, while the other  highlights the many film and television locations that have made the river a familiar backdrop for audiences around the world.

An introductory offer allows passengers to purchase the audio guides for just £2.50, making this not only the best, but one of the cheapest ways to explore London. Each guide provides information about all 24 piers, whether you’re travelling East to West, West to East, taking a quick trip or even commuting to the office.

Using geofence technology developed by Get Your Guide, the guides will narrate journeys through London, offering facts, stories and insights about landmarks and locations passengers can see from the river. With Wi-Fi available on board all boats, the script will at first be available in ten languages, with more to be added in future. These currently include Japanese, Mandarin and a variety of popular European languages.

The film and television guide explores how the Thames has become one of the capital’s most recognisable on-screen backdrops. From films like James Bond, Love Actually and Harry Potter, to beloved British television series like Doctor Who and Made in Chelsea, productions have used the river as a character in itself, turning familiar views into cinematic moments recognised by audiences around the world.

The history-focused guide takes listeners on a journey through the Thames’ remarkable past, uncovering stories of industry, exploration and everyday life along the riverbanks. Passengers can travel through time, learning about medieval life, royal pageantry and the modern transformation of London’s waterfront, showcasing how the river has shaped the city for centuries.

Sean Collins, CEO of Uber Boat by Thames Clippers says “The Thames has been at the centre of London life for centuries, and every stretch of the river has a story to tell. These new audio guides are designed to help passengers experience the city in a completely new way as they travel through the heart of the capital. We’re delighted to be bringing those stories to life with the unmistakable voice and humour of Rory Bremner.
