Rotherhithe Pier now open
RB4 service has resumed normal schedule
RB4 service has resumed normal schedule
Orbit Clipper, the UK’s first 100% electric cross-river ferry, is scheduled to launch later in the Spring. This innovative vessel will replace the current service between Rotherhithe and Canary Wharf, offering a more sustainable and frequent travel option with greater passenger capacity and space for up to 100 bikes.
To support the introduction of Orbit Clipper, we have built a new pier at Rotherhithe and are upgrading Canary Wharf pier with automatic docking and charging systems. As a result, Doubletree Docklands Pier has been permanently closed, and replaced with Rotherhithe Pier.
The new Rotherhithe Pier is now in place and we can’t wait to welcome passengers back to this key stop on our route.
The RB4 has resumed normal service between Canary Wharf and Rotherhithe, and will initially served by Twinstar. Orbit Clipper will begin crossings later this Spring.
While some final touches are still underway, our safety team has assessed and signed off the site. Passengers can expect a smooth and safe experience.
With Rotherhithe Pier opening, the temporary alternative service between Greenland (Surrey Quays) and Canary Wharf piers has now ended.

Rotherhithe Pier is located on the south bank of the Thames, directly behind the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel—right next to the former Doubletree Docklands Pier.
Passengers can access the new pier via the Thames Path (south of the pier)* or through the hotel lobby via Rotherhithe Street.
*Please note, getting to Rotherhithe Pier via the Thames Path is not wheelchair accessible, due to the steps on the current walkway across Nelson Dock. If you are unable to use that walkway, please use the hotel entrance. We are working to build a new, fully-accessible crossing over Nelson Dock in the coming months.
