Remembrance Sunday honours and remembers all the men and women, military or civilian, who suffered or died during the First World War. 2018 marks 100 years since the end of the conflict, and it’s important, more than ever, to remember those who sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom.

Below find some of the events going on in London in commemoration of the centenary

National Service of Remembrance and Nation’s Thank You procession

The National Service of Remembrance, on Sunday 11 November, will be held at The Cenotaph in Whitehall followed by the Nation’s Thank You procession taking place immediately after The Royal British Legion parade. More details

Travel on Remembrance Sunday

If you have a ticket to attend the National Service of Remembrance or the Nation's Thank You procession and wish to travel to Whitehall by boat, the closest piers are Westminster and Embankment, a respective7 and 10 minute walk away. London Freedom Pass holderscan travel for free on Sunday 11th to and from Westminster or Embankment Piers. You can get your ticket either online using the code RemembranceSunday or speak to an MBNA Thames Clippers member of staff at one of our manned piers on the day.

At the pier
Show your London Freedom Pass at any of our ticket offices at the following piers: Westminster, Embankment, Bankside, London Bridge City, Tower, Canary Wharf, Greenwich or North Greenwich.

  • Go to booking.thamesclippers.com
  • Choose Single or Return journey
  • Enter the 11 November as the date
  • Select the From and To piers
  • Select Freedom Pass fare type and add to basket
  • Enter the code RemembranceSunday in the Discount Codes box during checkout

You will be required to show your London Freedom Pass when boarding the boat.

Beyond the Deepening Shadow: The Tower Remembers
Every evening between 17:00 and 21:00 the Tower moat will gradually be illuminated with thousands of individual flames accompanied by a specially-commissioned sound installation. A powerful symbol of remembrance. See the installation for free until 11 November.

Poppies at Imperial War Museum
Visit the poppies from the original 2014 Tower of London installation at the Imperial War Museum until 18 November. Weeping Window shows the poppies cascading from a window to the ground.

Remembrance Art Trail at Canary Wharf
Remembrance Art Trail is an exhibition throughout the Canary Wharf estate of 11 powerful artworks created by artist Mark Humphrey and commemorating 100 years since the end of WWI. It’s free to visit at any hour until 11 November 6pm.

Centenary Remembrance Late at the National Army Museum
On 7 November, 6.00pm - 9.00pm, join the Centenary Remembrance Late to reflect on the culture of Remembrance as we mark the centenary of the Armistice. Connect, create and commemorate in this evening of discussion, music, poetry and crafts. Free admission.

Poppy-making family crafts
On 3 & 10 November bring the kids to the National Army Museum to learn about the meaning of the Remembrance poppy and make their 3D poppy to add to the growing Remembrance garden. Sessions are 10.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm.
