Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Please only travel if absolutely necessary.
Further to a significant drop in passenger demand in recent days, following UK government’s direction to travel only when absolutely necessary, from Saturday 28 March 2020 we will temporarily be suspending all Thames Clippers services until further notice. We will continue to operate on Friday 27 March according to our current revised timetable.

Thames Clippers is committed to the safety and health of its passengers and staff.

We would like to reassure customers that we are closely monitoring the situation, and following the advice as set out by UK government. We will update you immediately with any further changes to our service. The safety of all passengers and staff continues to be the number one priority.

We are aware that the World Health Organization (WHO) and UK government have issued advice for those affected or who might be affected.

If you are displaying any of the symptoms OR live in a household with anyone displaying any of the symptoms:

  • a temperature of 37.5 degrees or higher
  • a new, continuous cough

Please follow the latest UK government advice (16 March) and stay at home for 14 days.


What does Coronavirus (COVID-19) mean for general commuters in London?

The government has now asked people to restrict travel to essential travel only.

In these times of fear and uncertainty, isolating ourselves in order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) is of the highest importance.


What is Thames Clippers doing?

Thames Clippers has undertaken a stringent cleaning regime on all our boats, both during and after service. We have been deep cleaning and sterilising cabin interiors nightly and our crew is equipped with the appropriate cleaning equipment to undertake regular cleans during the scheduled hours of operation. Plenty of hand sanitisers are available on board our fleet and at the piers.

To help protect our customers & teams, we will only accept card and contactless payments at our piers, until further notice and following government advice, we have also closed the bars on all of our vessels.

Over the past week we have increasingly been reducing our services to keep in line with the latest travel guidance, whilst being mindful of doing all we possibly could to continue to support those Thames Clippers customers for whom commuting to work was/is critical.

However, at this time, as a privately-owned business, it is sadly no longer viable for us to continue to run our services.

We continue to closely monitor the situation, and will reinstate our service to keep London moving as soon as it is safe to do so.

Concerning tickets that have been purchased before the suspension period to travel after the 27 March 2020 we are offering a 12-month extension period. For international and domestic groups, we will extend a 12-24 month credit note on tickets.

Season tickets will automatically be frozen, effective from Saturday 28 March, whilst Thames Clippers services are not operating. For those wishing to cancel* the remainder of their ticket, this will be considered on a case by case basis; please email us.

Please note weekly season tickets can only be frozen.

For those whose season tickets have already been frozen, please note that they will be automatically reinstated on the first day that we resume service. Should you wish for it to resume at a different time, please get in touch to advise the exact date you would like it to resume from.

For Season Ticket requests please contact [email protected] and please ensure to include the following;

  • Season Ticket Photo ID number/ App ID Account Number
  • Scan/ Picture of current ticket (only applies to paper season ticket holders)

*The amount of the refund will be a percentage of the difference between the price paid initially and cost of tickets for the 'used' period.

We will continue to update our customers and trade partners as soon as possible regarding changes to our service. The safety of all passengers and staff continues to be the number one priority.


Do you need to commute?

In line with the government’s advice, we strongly advise avoiding travel unless absolutely necessary.

However, if you do find yourself in need of travel assistance, this advice may help you find the safest route.

While we don’t claim to know exactly how COVID-19 spreads, the advice from the government suggests that you should:

  • Avoid being in close contact with anyone for more than 15 minutes
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and regularly
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Use a tissue when coughing and sneezing

The NHS guidance on coronavirus defines "close contact" as being within 2 metres of an infected person for more than 15 minutes.
