MBNA Thames Clippers sails away with National Transport Award
MBNA Thames Clippers has been named Ferry Operator of the Year at the National Transport Awards. London’s leading river boat service scooped gold at the awards ceremony in London last night that celebrates those making a real difference to transport across the UK.;
As part of the award entry the company had to showcase the tangible results it has achieved in improving the experience for its transport users and ultimately adding to the successful development of the nation’s transport infrastructure. The judges noted “the consistent passenger growth in both commuter and leisure passengers” achieved by MBNA Thames Clippers and the significant investment to increase the capacity and frequency of the service.
Geoff Symonds chief operating officer at MBNA Thames Clippers commented: “It’s an honour to have received this prestigious award. MBNA Thames Clippers took home the highly commended award in this category last year and the whole team is thrilled to have secured the top spot for 2016. Our commitment to enhancing the London river transport network is moving at a considerable pace with investment in new boats and new pier options to continue to develop London’s infrastructure. This award will take pride of place in our office.”
The award follows the recent announcement that MBNA Thames Clippers has placed the largest fast passenger ferry order for a UK shipyard in over 25 years. Two new 170 capacity passenger boats will be built at the Wight Shipyard Co on the Isle of Wight, and will join London’s growing river transport network in summer 2017.
Representing an investment worth over £6.3million, the order will see the creation of 75 new jobs across the Isle of Wight and London, and the involvement of over 100 businesses in the South of England as part of the delivery supply chain.
